Jonathan Young unravels the history of this iconic gunmaker as it launches its latest shotgun, the B15 Beauchamp, in the UK. With Browning launching their latest shotgun, the B15 Beauchamp, in the UK, Jonathan Young investigates the history of this iconic gunmaker. Every Browning shotgun tells a tale of industrial history. It lies in the Wallonia region of Belgium, which has extensive iron ore and coal deposits; during the medieval wars, citizens found a ready market for arms. But the profits of warfare will always attract and the city continued to provide arms for those who could pay, including the rebels in the American War of Independence. Inevitably, a concentration of skilled craftsmen created market diversification and in the 19th century some, such as J Devillers and J Boussart, began creating luxury sporting shotguns for clients such as the Prince of Orange. FN, as it became known, branched into other products, such as bicycles and cars. John had just taken out a patent for a 7.

The pistol features a six-round magazine capacity and is a striker-fired , single action , blow back mechanism. The manual thumb operated safety locks the slide in the closed position when engaged using side thumb pressure. FN produced under license from the American arms designer John Browning the revolutionary Model pocket pistol.
This cartridge was among the first automatic pistol cartridges to be utilized worldwide. It was designed with a semi-rimmed shell casing made of brass. The rim of the shell casing had a slightly larger circumference than the base of the cartridge and an extractor groove was cut directly above it. The shell casing was headspaced on this small rim; however, the utilization of the rim in this design complicated the mechanics of the cartridge because, while still in the magazine, the rim of one cartridge would sometimes get hung up on the extractor groove of the following cartridge also known as “rim lock”.
The Vest Pocket pistol incorporated a grip safety mechanism and also a small safety lever on the left side of the frame, which locked the trigger. In addition, this safety lever locked the slide about a half inch back from the front of the pistol to enable easy disassembly.

A heat-activated expandable Palusol door seal keeps out smoke and water. This fire-proof gun safe also has a variety of anti-burglary features to make life difficult for any would-be thieves. This weapons cabinet is made of gauge steel with seamless body construction for extra strength. You have a choice of mechanical lock or SecuRam electronic lock.
This gun safe has bolts on all 4 sides of the door to frustrate pry-bar attacks– there are 5 active locking bolts on the front, top, and bottom of the door, and 3 fixed locking bolts on the hinge side of the door, so the hinges can be removed and the door will stay locked. If thieves attempt to pry open the door, Browning’s rotating cam system transfers the force away so the door stays locked.

Baby Browning Patent Drawing. The new Baby Browning was nearly a half-inch shorter than the FN Model and weighed four ounces less. The fact that the new Baby was called a Browning might seem a bit surprising, since John M. Browning had no part in its design. According to Anthony Vanderlinden, Browning had an agreement with FN as early as allowing them to use his name as a trademark. The excellent stirrup-shaped Browning connector and the grip safety of the Model were eliminated in order to reduce size and weight.
Both guns have a magazine safety to lock the sear when the magazine is removed. The Baby Browning magazine safety also prevents the magazine from being inserted if the trigger is being pulled, and FN literature claimed that if the gun were dropped the magazine safety would be jarred backward, locking the sear and preventing an accidental discharge. The complex latch mechanism at the rear of the Walther was not necessary on the Baby Browning because takedown is accomplished via the removeable barrel.

However, as the restrictions on business begin to ease, and we can once again begin to offer the free valuations and advice we are well known for, I have taken on the vast majority of the work due to limiting the number of staff in the saleroom. So, it has fallen to me to value and catalogue a far wider range of items than I usually would, and while doing this I have realised just how important our team of specialist valuers really are.
As a general auctioneer I have a good all-round knowledge of most items, but I very soon concluded that I will never know enough about every one of the huge variety of categories which our valuers cover. From a coin collection to a classic car, motorcycles to medals and militaria, guns, stamps, toys, watches, jewellery, vinyl records and more — Stroud Auctions are fortunate to have specialists in all these areas on whom I rely for their unbelievable knowledge and expertise.
After concluding that they would do a far better job than I possibly can, I have decided to let the specialists take over and give our customers the service they have come to expect. At the moment we are offering free valuations at our saleroom or in your own home, and if the government updates any of their guidelines over coming weeks then we may be able to return to the open valuation sessions everyone is used to, without the need to book.
